Kellyanne Conway Responds to Her ‘Go Buy Ivanka’s Stuff’ Comment

Kellyanne Conway has bookended her day with appearances on Fox News. Tonight’s appearance, on Martha MacCallum‘s show, was Conway’s first reaction to her first appearance this morning, which has set off ethics alarm bells.

On Fox & Friends, Conway was talking about the president’s tweet defending his daughter, Ivanka, against the department store Nordstrom. “Go buy Ivanka’s stuff, is what I would tell you,” Conway said in a live interview from the White House press briefing room. “I hate shopping, but I’m gonna go get some myself today.”

At the White House press briefing today, Sean Spicer acknowledged, Conway was “counseled” about her comment.

“How were you counseled?,” MacCallum asked. “I am not going to comment on that, Martha. I have nothing more to say about it.” But MacCallum pressed on:

MacCallum: What about the letter that has come from [Jason] Chaffetz and [Elijah] Cummings in the House that has gone to the government ethics board? And they say they consider that to be a very serious, potentially serious, violation of the government ethics code.

Conway: We are aware of that letter and we are reviewing that internally. I am just really happy that I spent an awful lot of time with the President of the United States this afternoon and that he supports me 100%.

MacCallum: So you spoke about that matter and he doesn’t have any intention to suspend you?

Conway: We spoke about a range of matters, he supports me 100%. In fact it was was a very heartening moment. All I can say to America’s women is, at some point in your life, you ought to have a boss who treated me the way that the President of the United States treated me today.
