July Ratings: “Apples To Oranges?”

We’ve been getting some emails about the July program ranker (M-F, 25-54). One emailer wrote “why are MSNBC’s doc shows compared to the live shows in the weekday ranker. Isn’t that comparing apples to oranges?” Two of the top 15 shows in cable news last month, were part of the MSNBC ‘doc bloc.’

But MSNBC makes no bones about it. An insider tells TVNewser “a year ago we moved to the doc block late night, and the numbers speak for themselves.” The programming has helped that time period (M-F, 10-Midnight ET) grow 65% year-over-year. “That’s our strategy and our strategy is working.”
