Jon Friedman on Lou Dobbs: “Mad As a Hatter” Or “Crazy Like A Fox”?

By Alissa Krinsky

MarketWatch’s Jon Friedman devotes his column today to writing about Lou Dobbs:

• “I must confess that I don’t quite ‘get’ Dobbs. I can’t figure out if his rants on the immigration issue are genuine. Call me a hopeless cynic…”

• “Dobbs is savvy enough to understand that he needs some sort of persona, though nonbelievers might label it a gimmick, to stand out in the cable TV wars. He has become one of CNN’s biggest stars and most popular personalities by riding the immigration issue. For that, he deserves credit.”

• “Mad as a hatter, Dobbs’ detractors might insist. Or crazy like a fox, his supporters would suggest. Because Dobbs is trying hard to craft an image and boost his show’s ratings, it’s never easy to know for sure where his television persona ends and his heartfelt beliefs actually begin.”
