John Bolton: ‘Well, I Think I Still Am a Fox News Contributor’

Martha MacCallum introduced John Bolton as a former Fox News contributor on her show last night. Less than an hour earlier, President Trump announced Bolton would be his new National Security Adviser.

“Well, I think I still am a Fox News contributor,” Bolton told MacCallum.

“No, you’re not, apparently,” said MacCallum.

“Well, I haven’t started there, so that demonstrates the sort of limbo that I’m in because I didn’t expect that announcement this afternoon,” Bolton said.

But Fox News confirms with us today that Bolton is no longer a contributor. He starts his new job at the White House April 9.

It’s not unusual for networks to cut ties with paid contributors who return to government or run for office. In 2011, Fox suspended Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum when they considered runs for the White House.

Bolton told MacCallum the NSA offer “came to a conclusion” Thursday afternoon during a meeting at the White House.
