Joe Theismann Joins NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football

By Noah Davis

The NFL Network broadcast booth just got a little bit more crowded. Joe Theismann, he of the 1983 MVP, brutal leg break, and more than 20 years as a commentator, will join Bob Papa and Matt Millen in the Thursday night booth.

Theismann began his life as a broadcaster in 1985 after a successful, albeit abbreviated stint as a quarterback. He partnered with Frank Gifford and Don Meredith to call Super Bowl XIX before moving to ESPN’s Sunday Night Football three years later. He was off the air for most of last season, but returned alongside former coach Joe Gibbs for a game in January, which Awful Announcing called “the worst announcing team of all time.” (More from AA on Theismann here.)

At least one person is not pleased with the Theismann addition.
