Jim Murphy Wins The GMA (Senior) EP Sweepstakes (But ABC Won’t Admit It Yet)

Jim Murphy‘s new job is “the worst kept secret at ABC News,” insiders say. Seven days ago, TVNewser said the former CBS Evening News EP was in the running for the soon-to-be-vacant top job at Good Morning America. On Tuesday Broadcasting & Cable confirmed that Murphy is becoming the senior executive producer.

There still hasn’t been an official announcement — it’s summer, people are on vacation — “and yet, the ABC computer system lists him in that exact role,” along with his new e-mail address, a tipster says.

“He’s in the ABC/ Disney global outlook email directory with his title as ‘Senior Executive Producer – Good Morning America.’ Cibrowski and Guff still have senior broadcast producer titles,” another tipster writes. “Rumors about the number two gig are swirling! The main candidates in the rumor mill are… Cibrowski, Guff, Green, and Clemente.”

> Also: An e-mailer asks: “What about Tammy Haddad? Rick Kaplan? All those endless Gail Shister columns with the WRONG information? Why “SENIOR” executive producer? What does this mean for Phyllis McGrady — isn’t that her job? What role did Diane Sawyer play in his selection?”
