How Long Will Gibson Anchor World News?

In a Houston Chronicle profile of Charlie Gibson by David Barron, the ABC World News anchor reveals his intention to stay with ABC News for the foreseeable future. “I wanted to stay through the election, because I thought it was going to be a fascinating election, and stay through the inauguration,” he said. “Now we have a heck of a story, and I want to stay until this story sort of rights itself.”

Gibson’s contract was set to expire after the 2008 election but has been creatively renegotiated. “We basically have a contract in which it’s you work for awhile, and there’s no term to it,” said Gibson. “Here is what we will pay, we’ll talk every once in awhile, and if you want to quit, OK, and if we want to kick you out of there, we’ll kick you out of there.”
