How CBS Sunday Night Helps CBS This Morning

By Chris Ariens

CBS put up big numbers for Sunday night’s Academy of Country Music awards, and it appears those viewers in many cities kept their TVs tuned to CBS on Monday morning. And that helped put “CBS This Morning” in a good position, ratings wise, in many top 10 markets. According to Nielsen overnight data:

  • In New York (Market #1), “CTM” topped NBC’s “Today” show in viewers. “Good Morning America” was still No. 1 in New York City.
  • In Dallas (Market #5), where the ACMs were held, “CTM” beat “Good Morning America” in viewers and in the A25-54 demo. “Today” was No. 1 in Dallas.
  • In San Francisco (Market #6) and Boston (Market #7) “CTM” topped “Today.” Again, “GMA” was No. 1 in both the Bay Area and in Boston.

Nationally, “CBS This Morning” remains in third place, and it has some work to do in markets like Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia, where either ABC or NBC dominate, but as we show in our weekly ratings reports, “CTM” is consistently showing the most growth in the mornings. A strong CBS primetime should only help that momentum.
