Gibson Addresses Ledger Comments on Big Story

By SteveK

FNC host John Gibson addressed the reaction that has come from the comments he made on his radio show after Heath Ledger‘s death. “I’m sorry that some took my comments as anti-gay and insensitive,” he said. “To anyone offended by my comments, I’m sorry. But I’m also sorry Heath Ledger is no longer alive and with us.”

The story was amplified today when Perez Hilton picked up the story on his blog, and listed the names and contact information for various vice presidents at Fox News Channel, including Senior VP of Fox News Radio Robert Finnerty and VP of Programming for FNC Suzanne Scott.

The original clip was picked up by MSNBC and web sites like Think Progress, which updated the story by playing the clip from Wednesday’s Gibson radio show in which he defends what he said. Gibson says there was, “no point in passing up a good joke.”

He also is asked to defend himself against some of the comments posted on the web, including one that calls him a “closet homosexual.” Gibson laughs and says: “Well, I’m still breathing. There’s the difference right there.”

GLAAD is protesting Gibson for these and past comments relating to “Brokeback Mountain.”
