Friday Profiling: Wallace and Gharib

By SteveK

• FOX News Sunday anchor Chris Wallace is profiled by Paul Bedard of the U.S. News & World Report. Wallace talked about the power of being the #2 Sunday morning show in Washington, D.C. “If you’re able to say to a guest, ‘Look, we finished second in Washington, and if you want to get your message out to people on the Hill, to people in the White House, to the opinion makers in Washington, we’re the place to do it,’ it’s a powerful argument,” he said.

He described the difficult task of trying to overtake the leader on Sunday morning, Tim Russert and NBC’s Meet the Press. “It’s tough. He’s an institution here as well as in the rest of the country,” he said. “It took Meet 50 years, 60 years to get where they are. We’re the new kid on the block at 12 years, and watch us grow.”

• Marketwatch’s Jon Friedman continues his Friday business journalist profiles, with a look at, “the least-heralded TV business-news star around,” Susie Gharib. One reason for the “least-heralded” title is the low-profile of Gharib, despite her show, PBS’ “Nightly Business Report,” being the most watched daily business report. “Making the anchor the star of the show is not my style,” she said. “I would want to emulate Tim Russert more than Jim Cramer.”

One person in the business news biz she is a fan of is FNC CEO Roger Ailes. “Roger Ailes is a brilliant newsman,” she said. “He laid the groundwork for CNBC, and I think he will turn Fox Business into a successful outlet.”
