For CNN, The “Growing Importance” Of CNN.com

The “growing importance” of CNN’s internet operations is the focus of a story today by hometown paper The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Reporters, writers, editors and producers fill two floors” at CNN’s offices, Kristi Swartz writes. “Their sole job is to deliver news to the Web or to mobile devices — not TV.”

CNN.com debuted in 1996 1995, with a redesign and refocus two years ago that launched last year. “This has been an opportunity for us to do journalism as a content company,” says CNN News Services VP Susan Grant.

According to Swartz, “more than 33 million people went to CNN.com in June.” She says Nielsen Media Research has ranked the site #1 for eleven consecutive months — in the in the “news and information” category — when it come to how much time visitors spend on the site (29.3 minutes per person on average).
