Try to follow along with this explanation: The NBC Nightly News won last week among total viewers, and beat ABC’s World News Tonight in the 25-54 demo rating, but ABC had more viewers in the key demographic. Raw numbers for the week of Feb. 28 to March 4:
NBC: 10,450,000 P2+ / 3,490,000 – 2.9 demo
ABC: 10,450,000 P2+ / 3,490,000 – 2.9 demo
CBS: 7,390,000 P2+ / 2,370,000 – 2.0 demo
“ABC News’ ‘World News Tonight with Peter Jennings’ placed first in the key Adult 25-54 demo for the week of February 28, 2005, with a 70,000 advantage,” ABC’s P.R. touted. It also said that WNT has “closed the gap with NBC by 71% among adults 25-54” since BW’s first week at NBC. But but but: “Nightly News has now placed first for 35 consecutive weeks and for 100 of the last 106 weeks,” NBC’s press release says.
