Evening News Ratings: Week of Sept. 21

Lester Holt gives NBC Nightly News another across-the-board win for the week of Sept. 21, which included extensive coverage of Pope Francis’s visit to the U.S.

World News Tonight with David Muir finished second, but hasn’t gotten this close in the A25-54 demo since the week of July 20, with 93,000 viewers (5 percent) separating the two broadcasts.

Compared to the same week last year, NBC was up +1 percent in viewers and up +10 percent in the demo; ABC was up +2 percent in viewers and flat in the demo; and the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley was up +3 percent in viewers but down -7 percent in the demo.

Due to coverage of the Pope’s visit, with pre-emptions in New York City due to local coverage, ABC’s and NBC’s weekly averages are based on 3 days (Mon-Wed), while CBS’s average is based on 4 days (Mon-Wed and Fri).
