Evening News Ratings: Week of April 4

It was a less than stellar week for the evening news programs, but NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt remained at the top of the charts. Nightly finished No. 1 across-the-board for the week of April 4, averaging 8.3 million total viewers and over 1.9 million adults 25-54. The Peacock’s evening news program has now finished No. 1 in total viewers for nine consecutive weeks, and No. 1 in adults 25-54 for 37 consecutive weeks.

In terms of viewership trends, Nightly was down -3 percent in total viewers from the previous week, but up +4 percent from the comparable week in 2015 (week of April 6). The program was down -2 percent in adults 25-54 from the previous week, but up +5 percent in the demo year-over-year.

ABC World News Tonight with David Muir finished No. 2 in total viewers as well as in the key 25-54 news demo. World News was down -4 percent in total viewers from the previous week and -4 percent from the comparable week in 2015. The program was also down -4 percent in adults 25-54 from the previous week, and down -14 percent in the demo from the comparable week in 2015.

CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley finished third, down -3 percent in total viewers from the previous week, and -1 percent from the comparable week in 2015. If we look at the key news demo of adults 25-54, Evening News lost -7 percent from the previous week, and down -5 percent year-over-year.
