Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has joined those criticizing Katie Couric over a gun control documentary that included an eight-second “pause” edited into the film that didn’t happen during Couric’s interview with gun rights advocates from Virginia.
On Twitter Tuesday evening, Trump described Couric as a “third-rate reporter” who “has been largely forgotten.”
Trump said Couric “should be ashamed of herself for the fraudulent editing of her doc.”
Couric has taken responsibility for the misleading edit, expressing “regret” that the eight seconds of silence added to the film implied that Couric’s interview subjects were left without an answer to her question when in fact they responded right away.
It’s unclear what prompted Trump to weigh in on the story.
