Don Lemon Hip Hop Artist Interview Devolves Into Media Debate, Claims of Anchor Disrespect

Well that was interesting.

This afternoon, during coverage from Ferguson, CNN’s Don Lemon brought on Brooklyn-based hip hop artist Talib Kweli, who has been protesting in the Missouri city. But the conversation quickly turned into Kweli’s complaints about media coverage, then to CNN.com headline writing, and about whether Lemon disrespected Kweli when he arrived for his interview. Despite being wrapped by his producers, Lemon allowed Kweli to speak, then explained his own position. “I said hello to you. I am very busy here. I am not trying to disrespect you,” said Lemon.

It devolved into a conversation about how to have a cable TV news conversation.

In the end, Lemon asked “Are we good? “Yeah, we’re good,” Kweli said.
