ABC’s David Muir Reports From Guantanamo Bay

By Mark Joyella

ABC World News Tonight anchor David Muir traveled to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for a report tonight on the future of the American prison camp–home to detainees whose future will likely be decided by the next president.

“President Obama promised to close the prison at Guantanamo eight years ago. Now, with 20 days to go until this election, American voters will be deciding between two very different fates for the notorious prison,” Muir told TVNewser. “In some communities, we witnessed real outrage over any possibility the remaining detainees could be brought to prisons in the United States.”

It’s Muir’s 13th overseas trip since taking the anchor chair at World News Tonight in 2014–and it comes as ABC’s newscast has taken first place in total audience for the first time in 17 years.
