Covering the Fires: When Anchors Travel

The TV trades are asking the question that comes up just about every time network anchors travel to and report from the scene of a major breaking news story:

B&C‘s Marisa Guthrie: “It’s definitely a gut thing,” said Alex Wallace, executive producer of NBC’s Nightly News. ‘I think when a story becomes the conversation — when it’s not just a story, but the story — It’s what we do.'”

Variety‘s Michael Learmonth: “‘Every story is different, but, in terms of numbers of displaced people, this is the biggest evacuation since Katrina,’ said World News executive producer Jon Banner, who accompanied ABC anchor Charles Gibson to the fire lines.”
