Couric Asks: “Who Watches” The View?

Katie Couric is getting used to staying in bed until eight most mornings. That’s not the most interesting nugget in James Brady‘s dispatch from a recent Core Club affair in midtown Manhattan.

“Her professionally competitive edge showed just once,” Brady says. “When I said I thought Meredith Vieira was a ‘can’t miss’ at Today, Katie turned reporter and countered by asking, ‘How do you think Rosie (O’Donnell) is going to do (at The View)? You know, their numbers aren’t that good. They get talked about and they promote very well but don’t have the ratings. Who watches it?’ Barbara Walters was in the room (this was a couple of days before the Star Jones thing blew up), but not within earshot.”
