Comparing NewsNight & 360’s Ratings

Parts three and four of TVNewser’s interview with Aaron Brown are coming this week. Until then, Variety and The Huffington Post have published features about the former CNN anchorman.

Also, today’s Chicago Tribune compares Brown’s ratings with his successor, Anderson Cooper: “Since taking over for Brown, Cooper’s audience in the [10] p.m. hour is off 7 percent in total viewers and 10 percent in the advertiser-friendly 25-to-54 demographic from Brown’s average over the previous four years.”

> Update: 7:49pm: Unanchored says this comparison is unfair: “People are getting these bogus figures by looking at the program ranker figures, which lists viewers by program, rather than the hourly figures. AC360 spans two hours, and replaced both NewsNight and a repeat of Lou Dobbs. BOTH hours outscore the shows they replaced, but because the 11PM hour is always lower, it brings down the average of the whole show, and thus makes it appear (to the stupid) that Anderson Cooper’s numbers are lower than Aaron Brown’s were.” Look at June 2005 vs. June 2006 vs. June 2007…
