Comcast and NBC Universal have signed agreements with a number of Latino organizations to boost diversity at their respective companies. The deal is part of a diversity commitment the companies made as part of the proposed merger.
In a blog post explaining the deal, Comcast’s Susan Gonzales and NBCU’s Paula Madison outline the efforts the companies will be making.
First, Comcast has pledged to add a Latino to its board of directors within 24 months. The companies are also pledging to increase employment opportunities for Latinos, to do business with more Latino-owned companies, to add more Hispanic programming, and to do community outreach and philanthropic efforts to benefit Latinos.
The announcement that it would add Latino programming and hire more minority employees comes as NBC News, and other news orgs, have been taking heat for their very white talent lineups.
