Responding to yesterday’s item about CNN’s misleading graph: “What happened is cnn.com has switched from an old application to a newer version of that application (Swiff Charts) in which the default settings are different,” an anonymous tipster says. “Whereas the old one would create a chart starting from zero up to the higest number, the new one takes the lowest number and the highest value and draws a chart within those numbers so that the chart is always visible at its best (even if… misleading!) When the new version was installed, the templates weren’t updated so were using old templates with new behavior, PLUS an editor overlooked it and that’s how CNN got to that result, which was promptly fixed and you can bet will never happen again.”
