Last night, CNN’s Anderson Cooper took aim at specious reports floating around the web and talk radio that President Obama’s upcoming trip to Asia will cost taxpayers $200 million a day.
It was a must-see segment, smacking down the claims while pointing out the high profile talkers that have been repeating the figure without attempting to verify it. The $200 million claim was made by one newspaper in India, and was based on an anonymous quote.
As Cooper points out in the segment, the entire war in Afghanistan costs $190 million a day, and previous Presidential trips of similar scope cost closer to $5 million a day, leaving little doubt that the number was bogus.
