CNN25: Reflections By Klein, Cooper, Gupta

This is the second in a series of reflections on the last 25 years of CNN (Part One):

> “For the company, [CNN’s 25th anniversary] is a tremendous affirmation of a vision that seemed ridiculous at the beginning,” CNN/U.S. president Jon Klein told me yesterday. Ted Turner’s “profound” vision is “still being played out,” he added. Klein referred to the blogging panel as an example of the “further democratization of news” — a trend that CNN commenced. “CNN is a brand that has had enormous impact around the world,” he added.

> “I do think there’s a purity of the mission to CNN,” Anderson Cooper told me this morning. “There are not many news organizations that devote the resources to cover the world the way CNN does. On something like the tsunami, you can see it. But they are there day in and day out. They are out there gathering information. I think that’s one of the amazing things about CNN.”

> Dr. Sanjay Gupta:CNN has become part of our lexicon. When something important or relevant is happening, people say ‘turn on CNN’ or ‘I saw that on CNN.'” He said CNN and medicine have an important element in common: The importance of credibility…
