CNN announced a number of new anchor assignments Wednesday, including Alisyn Camerota now focusing exclusively on the network’s 10 p.m. ET hour, and Laura Coates focusing exclusively on the 11 p.m. hour on weekdays.
In addition to filling its 10 and 11 p.m. primetime hours (but not its 9 p.m. hour), CNN announced changes to its daytime programming lineup.
“CNN’s Dayside audience is highly influential, with executives and leaders watching from their offices around the country as the day’s news unfolds,” CNN Worldwide Chairman and CEO Chris Licht said in a statement. “We are leaning into our greatest strengths, showcasing our unparalleled newsgathering operation and giving our anchors the room to be more authentic. We’ve seen how our audience responds to this format, and we believe it will put us in a position of strength going into the evening and primetime hours.”
The weekday 9 a.m.-Noon ET block will be a standalone program out of CNN’s New York studios anchored by John Berman, Kate Bolduan and Sara Sidner.
The weekday 1-4 p.m. ET block will be a standalone program out of CNN’s Washington D.C. studios co-anchored by Brianna Keilar, Boris Sanchez and Jim Sciutto.
Inside Politics with John King will continue to originate from Washington at 12 p.m. ET.
With Alisyn Camerota moving from afternoons to primetime, her CNN Newsroom afternoon partner Victor Blackwell will return to weekends, anchoring the 10 a.m. hour on Saturdays and co-anchoring CNN This Morning Weekend with Amara Walker out of Atlanta. Jim Acosta will also be expanding his role on the weekends, now anchoring 4-8 p.m. ET on Saturday and 4-7 p.m. ET on Sundays for CNN Newsroom Weekend.
These changes will go into effect in the coming months, and more details, including show names, producers, etc. will be announced in the weeks ahead, CNN says.
