Charles Osgood is preparing for his eventual departure from CBS Sunday Morning, in a story first reported by the NY Daily News. Osgood is scheduled to undergo knee-replacement surgery in the near future and will be off the air while he recovers. Between the surgery and a contract that expires at the end of 2016, CBS has started the process of replacing the 83-year-old Osgood.
“We talked vaguely about his future and that’s as far as it goes,” CBS Sunday Morning EP Rand Morrison told the Daily News.
Osgood has hosted the highly-rated, Emmy Award winning morning show since 1994. He also anchors and writes The Osgood File, his daily news commentaries broadcast on the CBS Radio Network. He joined CBS News in 1971 and has worked on CBS Morning News, CBS Evening News With Dan Rather and the CBS Sunday Night News.
