> Update: 7:35pm: An e-mailer responds: “CBS is losing two latino correspondents but is the only network that consistenly puts THREE male African American correspondents on the air. Byron Pitts, Randall Pinkston and Russ Mitchell are a breath of fresh air. It’s not enough, but a hell of a lot better effort at diversity than the others.”

“CBS News is losing its two major Latino correspondents,” Jim Acosta and Vince Gonzales, Journal-isms notes.

Gonzales, a graduate of CBS’ minority correspondents program, “is being shown the door.” “Basically, I was told they decided to go in a different direction,” Gonzales says. “In one fell swoop, CBS News looks a little less like America.”

A CBS spokeswoman says: “We are not where we want to be in terms of diversity, but it is an important priority and something that we are committed to improving.”
