CBS’ Lara Logan & Crew Win Intl. News Award

By Chris Ariens

CBS News correspondent Lara Logan and her team won the Association of International Broadcasters’ award for “Clearest Coverage of a Single News Event.” That news event was Logan’s reporting from Afghanistan on the resurgence of the Taliban. The story was first broadcast on the premiere of the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric in Sept. 2006.

The award was presented last night in London and was accepted by CBS News producer/fixer Sami Yousafzai, who negotiated with the Taliban for six months to secure the access and interviews.

Logan appeared via a videotaped message. CBS tells us that CBS News and Bloomberg were the only two U.S. news organizations up for awards from the AIB.
