CBS Kept Staffers (& The Public) Very Well Informed About Dozier’s Condition

In an important piece on CBS’s Public Eye blog, Bob Schieffer, Rome Hartman, Paul Friedman and others reflect on last week’s tragic coverage of the attack in Iraq that left two of their own dead and a third wounded.

In my opinion, CBS has done an outstanding job informing the public about Dozier’s injuries. “The decision about how much information to release, says Hartman, was made largely by CBS News President Sean McManus and CBS Spokesperson and Vice President Sandy Genelius.”

Genelius says: “Our goal was simple, and that was to keep everyone at CBS informed. Obviously it was a story that media around the world were interested in, and we just tried to keep it simple. When there was something to report, we issued a statement and an internal [message to CBS staffers].” She says that there “wasn’t always something monumental to report”… but that the feedback she’s gotten suggests that “people really appreciated the regularity of the updates.” Here’s the full report…
