Former CNN and MSNBC anchor Tucker Carlson joined us this morning from D.C. to talk President Obama and more.
We talked about the bailouts, which Carlson said he’s been against since the Bush administration. “I don’t think anybody has a right to a federally subsidized job,” he said. “I certainly didn’t. I bounced around over the past 20 years in journalism and the taxpayers have never stepped in to save my job.”
We also asked Carlson for his take on ratings sensation Glenn Beck of Fox News. Carlson hasn’t seen the show — but he’s seen the scoreboards. “If you’re doing those numbers at 5:00, you’re doing something remarkable,” he said. “I’ve never seen anybody in cable get numbers like that at that hour, so I’ve got to make an appointment to sit down and watch a week of Glenn Beck.”
We talk about Carlson’s expanding new media presence as well — blogging at The Daily Beast and launching a new Website, NewsCue.com, in “a month or so.”
Also discussed: Carlson’s thoughts on the “fawning and childish” coverage of the Obamas Europe trip, whether Google is helping or hurting newspapers and if he’s ever cried on-air (a la Beck).
