Caitlin Conant is leaving CBS’s communications shop and has been named Political Director of CBS News.
Conant takes over for Steve Chaggaris who was let go from the position in January.
“Caitlin’s background in national politics and her experience here at CBS News give her the strengths and perspectives to be a superb political director,” said D.C. bureau chief Chris Isham. “We are all very excited that she will be leading our political coverage as we head into what will certainly be a fascinating and challenging political cycle.”
Prior to joining CBS News, in May, 2016 as executive director of CBS’s D.C. communications, Conant spent eight years working in the U.S. Senate and on various political campaigns. Conant worked for Sen. Marco Rubio’s presidential campaign, and, earlier, was communications director for Sen. Rob Portman. Conant also served in communications roles for Sen. Joni Ernst, Sen. Richard Burr, Gov. Tim Pawlenty. She got her start in politics while working for John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign.
