Cable Network Ranker: Q2 2017

Fox News was the No. 1 basic cable network for the second quarter of 2017, both in prime time and total day viewers. The network posted double digit year-over-year audience growth, as was mentioned in an earlier post.

An NBA playoffs-heavy TNT finished No. 2 in total prime time viewers, with MSNBC, HGTV, ESPN, USA, TBS, Discovery, History and CNN round out the top 10 for Q2 ’17.

After Fox News, Nickelodeon, MSNBC, HGTV, Adult Swim, CNN, TNT, Investigation Discovery, Nick-at-Nite and Cartoon Network rounding out the Q2 top 10 in total day viewers.

Looking at other cable news networks, CNBC finished No. 46 in total prime time viewers, and posted +3 percent growth from its Q2 ’16 prime time average.

HLN finished right behind at No. 47 in prime time, but was -13 percent from Q2 ’16 average.

Fox Business Network came in at No. 83 in prime time, and posted +11 percent growth from Q2 ’16.

In total day, HLN came in at No. 38, but was once again -13 percent from its Q2 ’16 total day viewer average.

CNBC finished at No. 61 in total day, but was -6 percent from its Q2 ’16 average.

Fox Business ranked No. 65 in total day, and delivered +26 percent growth from last year.
