Cable Network Ranker: Fox News Was No. 2 Last Week

By A.J. Katz

Fox News’ lengthy streak as cable television’s most-watched network in total day (6 a.m. – 6 a.m.) came to an end the week before last thanks to Nickelodeon. FNC was unable to get revenge on Nick during the week of April 4, and held steady as cable’s second-most-watched network in total day (1.1 million viewers). Adult Swim, HGTV and USA rounded out the weekly top five in total day.

Fox News also held the No. 2 spot in prime time, moving past AMC with a 1.9 million total viewer average. FNC was up +5.5 percent in prime viewers from the previous week. TBS remained cable’s most-watched network in prime time primarily due to the NCAA men’s national championship game.

CNN fell out of the top ten this past week, both in the total day and prime time dayparts. The network moved from No. 9 to No. 13 in average total prime time viewers, and from No. 10 to No. 12 in average total day viewers. That said, CNN should expect a nice bump this week from Thursday night’s Democratic debate in Brooklyn.

MSNBC finished right behind CNN in total prime time viewers, dropping from No. 13 to No. 14. The network also dropped a spot in average total day viewers, moving down to No. 18 after holding the No. 17 spot the week before.
