Jane responds to the responses to her comments about lightweight anchors:
“It’s in no way a ‘cheap shot’ to point out Vargas’s lack of depth, it’s an observation of fact. I would invite insiders to provide a catalog of her subject areas of particular expertise if they would like to counter that observation. Whatever they may be, they’ve never been obvious to viewers. Vargas is a superb news reader. If she has anything more than that to bring to the anchor chair, she needs to start showing it.
And yes, some of the same things were said about ‘Peter Pretty,’ the difference being that he was 27 when he was suddenly elevated — self-admittedly unready — to the anchor position. Vargas is 43.”
