Brian Ross Wins SPJ Investigative Award

By Chris Ariens

Brian Ross‘s “20/20″ report on the “Halliburton Rapes” won the top award for investigative reporting Thursday night in the Deadline Award competition at the New York Society of Professional Journalists.

Ross examined the stories of two American women who said they were raped or sexually assaulted while working for Halliburton/KBR in Iraq.

Since the report, there have been three different Congressional hearings, new laws introduced to bring private contractors under the rule of law in Iraq and a key court decision that allows women who have been raped, to break the mandatory arbitration clauses in their Halliburton contracts and take the company to court.
