Bret Baier on Convention Coverage: ‘We try to have a good time on the set’

Fox News Channel anchor Bret Baier is the subject of a pair of profiles today detailing his preparation and thoughts about the upcoming conventions. The “Special Report” anchor tells the Austin American-Statesman about his goals for the next two weeks:

“I look at the conventions as the kickoff to this general election race,” he told me this week. “That’s when people around the country really start to pay attention. Our basic goal is to present the conventions in a way that makes people on the couch really care about what’s happening.”

As you might expect, Baier’s working long hours these days, but he says that’s A-OK. “I tell people it’s like drinking from a fire hose,” he said. “It’s non-stop, but I love what I do.”

Baier also speaks with the Orlando Sentinel about his rapport with Megyn Kelly, his co-anchor for the convention coverage:

“I led alongside Megyn in 2010 for midterms. We had a very successful night,” he said. “You never know where the conversation will go. We try to have a good time on the set. Talking down to people is not how you endear yourself to people when you’re in their living room every night.”
