Between the Mall & the Wedding, Burma for Mrs. Bush

By Chris Ariens

This morning the first couple was on GMA talking up the wonders of the National Mall. Tomorrow Laura Bush heads to Crawford, TX to continue plans for the weekend wedding of their daughter, Jenna. But this afternoon Mrs. Bush took to the White House press briefing room to discuss the humanitarian effort for cyclone-stricken Burma; Mrs. Bush has been following the political plight of Burma (known by the ruling government as Myanmar) since hearing the story of pro-democracy leader and Nobel Peace prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.

Fox News and CNN aired the statement as well as the Q and A. MSNBC picked up coverage shortly after Mrs. Bush began taking questions. The last several questions were about this weekend’s wedding at the western White House. One reporter asked “Any chance you’ll let us cover it?” Mrs. Bush demurred, shaking her head. Then the first lady got in the last word for the press corps saying, “Thank you so much for covering Burma. And I hope you’ll keep watching.”
