Barry Diller Calls Reporting on Aereo ‘Dopey’

By Chris Ariens

DillerAereoBarry Diller, the founder of the Fox Network and now a minority shareholder of Aereo, says the reporting about the streaming local TV service has been “dopey.” Diller, who was at last week’s Supreme Court arguments in the case, not only disagreed with some of the line of questioning of the Justices, he says he is “maddened” by some of the reporting.

“They’ve just been dopey,” Diller told Brian Stelter on “Reliable Sources.” “The essence of it is that Aereo is essentially simply an antenna device that replaces technologically what you used to have to do to go up to your rooftop and erect an antenna.” Reporters, many of whom work for the networks who are suing Aereo, think of Aereo as a “gimmick,” Diller says. “What we are doing is complying with the law.”

We’ll get the heart of Aereo, it’s chances of surviving the High Court and what the broadcasters are planning if it does, at tomorrow’s TVNewser Show. Click here for more information and to register.
