TVNewser broke the news seven days ago, and now NBC has confirmed it: Alex Wallace has been named Vice President of NBC News, effective immediately.

“In her time at NBC News, Alex has repeatedly proved to be a terrific producer, strategic thinker and first-rate manager,” Steve Capus said. “Her talents at ‘Weekend Today’ resulted in a strong performance at the program during her tenure, and she has built an outstanding reputation throughout her career at every turn — whether it be in the morning arena, the evening news, primetime or foreign coverage. I couldn’t be happier to have her as a key member of my team.”

Quoting the press release: “Wallace’s responsibilities will include executive oversight of ‘NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams.’ She will serve as Capus’ deputy on a number of additional issues as well, including oversight of NBC News Specials and, in partnership with NBC News VP David Verdi, newsgathering.”

Here is Wallace’s biography…

> Update: 10:36am: A tipster says: “The story you broke was that Wallace was getting the old Wheatley position. Since Cheryl Gould now occupies Wheatley’s office, how about getting it right and stop claiming credit where NONE is due?”
