Al Roker Breaks Guinness World Record With Rokerthon 2

By Chris Ariens

50 states, 17,000 miles, and 104 forecasts later, Al Roker is in the Guinness Book of World Records for a second time. Roker got a royal welcome home in the final stretch including the marching band from Xavier High School (his alma mater), his brother and daughters, a 2-block escort from Matt Lauer, and, of course, the goat from the promo.

Last week, before he set off for his 7-day tour, Roker told TVNewser, “I never dreamed that I would be getting, possibly two, Guinness Records let alone one. But, look, I never dreamed I’d be on the Today show. So, you never know.”

A year ago tomorrow, Roker entered the record books with a 34-hour forecast.

Today SVP Noah Oppenheim emails the staff:

This morning Al Roker made his triumphant return to the Plaza, earning himself yet another Guinness World Record. From its conception, to its planning, to its execution, Rokerthon II has exemplified the kind of truly original, fun-filled, (somewhat insane) nationwide event only TODAY can pull off.

A huge thanks to the producing team, the production managers, the crew, affiliate relations, marketing, PR, security — EVERYONE who contributed to this past week’s success.

And, of course, our deepest thanks to Al, whose energy, spirit, humor and heart cannot be topped.

Congrats to all,
Noah
