By Brian

From today’s Philadelphia Inquirer:

> First Amendment attorney Floyd Abrams: “The press distinguished itself in the coverage of New Orleans.”

> Alex S. Jones, director of the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard: “The media is like the weather — everybody likes to complain about it.” But the excellent Katrina coverage “brought the country together.”

> Bob Steele, a journalism-values scholar at the Poynter Institute: “The commitment on the side of the media was considerable, the reporting on Katrina was for the most part thoughtful and compelling, informative and revealing.”
