ABC Wins First 2 Weeks of Season for First Time in 17 Years

World News Tonight with David Muir has won back-to-back weeks among total viewers, a feat the ABC newscast had not accomplished since the 1999-2000 season. The newscast averaged close to 8.3 million total viewers this past week, +378,000 more than NBC Nightly News and +1.7 million more than CBS Evening News.

World News Tonight, NBC Nightly News and CBS Evening News each fell from the same week last year. Despite a commanding win in total viewers, ABC fell 2 percent, NBC fell 8 percent, and CBS fell 9 percent year-over-year.

NBC’s year-over-year drop in the news demo wasn’t quite as severe, down less than 1 percent, and the program continues to lead in the category through the first two weeks of the broadcast season. ABC fell 8 percent in the news demo year-over-year, and CBS Evening News was down 7 percent in a category.

Due to Thursday Night Football, CBS Evening News ratings are based on 4 days (Mon-Wed and Fri).
