ABC News Investigations On Eggs, Peace Corps Murder Get Results

By Merrill Knox

Two reports by the ABC News investigative unit, led by Brian Ross, were recognized this week for exposing new evidence that spurred the involved companies, and lawmakers, to take action.

“It’s always so thrilling when our stories get results,” Ross tells TVNewser. “My colleagues in the ABC News investigative team continue to believe we have some of the best jobs in journalism.”

A three-month investigation of Sparboe Farms, one of the nation’s largest egg suppliers, uncovered evidence of animal cruelty and health violations at the facility. In the aftermath of the reports, which aired last week on “Good Morning America,” as well as “World News” and “20/20,” major retailers across the country — including McDonald’s and Target — cut ties with the egg producer this week.

Also this week, President Obama signed the “Kate Puzey Peace Corps Volunteer Protection Act.” ABC’s investigation of Puzey’s muder, which aired in January, exposed what critics have called a “blame-the-victim” culture within the Peace Corps when volunteers are assaulted.
