ABC News is expanding its D.C. bureau leadership team, naming a trio of staffers to Director roles and expanding the responsibilities of an existing director.
ABC News vp and Washington bureau chief Jonathan Greenberger announced the moves in an internal memo to staff this morning.
“I’m very pleased to share some exciting news amidst this exceptionally demanding news cycle,” said Greenberger. “Effective immediately, several of our leaders here in the Bureau are taking on expanded roles, and in partnership with me, they will serve as the leadership team charged with guiding us into the future.”
Matt Hosford becomes director of content and platform integration, with a particular emphasis turning reporting into content on emerging platforms like ABC News’ streaming news service ABC News Live. Hosford is a 15-year ABC News vet, and started his ABC News tenure as David Kerley’s producer on the overnight shift.
Andrea Owen takes on an expanded portfolio in her role as director of operations, contributing to all coverage decisions and helping the leadership team set the strategy for the entire Washington bureau. Owen, who started her ABC News career as an intern in the London bureau, has served as both an editorial and graphics producer for World News Tonight, operations producer for This Week and World News Tonight, anchor producer, special events producer and more.
George Sanchez becomes director of newsgathering, where he will be an advocate for stories, a driver of editorial decisions, as well as a partner to each of ABC News’ vertical leaders about how they can push reporting forward. Sanchez first joined ABC News as a desk assistant in 1992, and came to the Washington Bureau in 2001. He has served as senior assignment manager for the past four years, and has been responsible for coverage decisions, staffing movements and future planning. Sanchez has also run ABC News’ Desk Assistant program.
Audrey Taylor becomes director of bureau planning & strategy, working with the leadership team to shape the newsroom as the news cycle changes and as the needs of the business adapt. She will also lead the bureau’s efforts to invest in D.C. bureau staffers. Taylor began her ABC News career in HR, and since then, has worked on every broadcast show and covering virtually all of the major Washington beats, including foreign affairs, politics, the Supreme Court and national security. Taylor has also worked on ABC News Live and created programming for the streaming news service..
