A Reliable Source, Two Years Late

By Chris Ariens

FishbowlDC writes about a much talked about (and excerpted) portion of the Howard Kurtz book concerning Dan Rather and the Pres. Bush/National Guard story. Gawker has the details…

Also, sources tell TVNewser another story in the book is not quite right about a meeting ABC News president David Westin had with NBC’s Brian Williams. Kurtz writes, “In the spring of 2002…Westin arranged a rendezvous in a Manhattan hotel…Westin asked Williams if he wanted to anchor Nightline.”

A network insider tells me Westin did meet with Williams, but it was in 1997 and that the discussion was about Williams joining Good Morning America, not Nightline.

>More: Howard Kurtz tells TVNewser: “I understand that David Westin does not recall discussing the Nightline job with Brian Williams, but I’ve double-checked with my source and it’s fair to say that Williams has a very different recollection. I was extraordinarily careful in this book not to report anything I didn’t have nailed down.”
