Megyn Kelly Dropped As Host of Sandy Hook Fundraiser

NBC’s Megyn Kelly will be replaced as the host of a gala fundraser for the group Sandy Hook Promise over her interview with Alex Jones, who has propagated a conspiracy theory that the 2012 massacre was a hoax.

Kelly was to have hosted the organization’s annual Promise Champions Gala tomorrow night in Washington, D.C. but given the heat Kelly and NBC have been getting over the Jones interview, Kelly and the group decided it best that she not attend.

“Sandy Hook Promise cannot support the decision by Megyn or NBC to give any form of voice or platform to Alex Jones and have asked Megyn Kelly to step down as our Promise Champion Gala host,” said Nicole Hockley, co-Founder and Managing Director. “It is our hope that Megyn and NBC reconsider and not broadcast this interview.”

“I understand and respect the decision of the event organizers but I am of course disappointed that I won’t be there to support them,” Kelly said in a statement. “I find Alex Jones’s suggestion that Sandy Hook was ‘a hoax’ as personally revolting as every other rational person does. Our goal in sitting down with him was to shine a light – as journalists are supposed to do – on this influential figure, and yes – to discuss the considerable falsehoods he as promoted with new impunity.”

NBC has already lost one advertiser over the airing of the Jones interview.
