Jake Tapper: ‘We’re Not Supposed To Be Part Of the Story’

Jake Tapper told Seth Meyers that one of the first things he learned about being a reporter is to not be part of the story. That was hard to do last week following CNN’s reporting on Pres.-elect Donald Trump and Trump’s reaction to it including his refusal to call on CNN at his news conference the next day.

“Everybody’s been mad at me one way or another. Sooner or later it happens,” Tapper told Meyers about his time covering successive presidential administrations. “But I’ve never seen the effort to delegitimize an organization for a story that you don’t like, that has been proven. Every word of the story that we reported last Tuesday has been proven correct. [Trump] was obviously trying to get us to stop focusing on the story and just to discredit all of us, and, you know, that’s too bad.” Here’s the segment from last night’s Late Night:
