ABC’s “Nightline” is featured in this week’s TV Guide, which chronicled the program’s steady growth over the past few years. As we’ve noted, lately the show’s ratings regularly compete or best the late-night competition on NBC and CBS, but, as TV Guide’s Stephen Battaglio points out, the program “not only has to fight off a network entertainment division that covets its time period, it has also faced tighter budgets and a perception that its mission is obsolete in a world of 24-hour cable news and the Internet.”
“Nightline” just posted its best Q4 ratings in six years and topped NBC for the first time since 1993. The show averaged 4 million total viewers, placing just behind CBS’ “Late Show” (4.22M) and ahead of NBC’s “Tonight” show (2.55M). “Nightline” also averaged 1.58M in the 25-54 demo and 1.33M in the 18-49.
