Laura Bush Not The First First Lady To Co-Host a Morning Show

This morning, Matt Lauer called it an “unprecedented event,” having a sitting first lady co-anchor an hour on a national morning show.

Well, not so fast.

Turns out First Lady Nancy Reagan was David Hartman‘s co-host on Good Morning America almost 25 years ago. The centerpiece of Mrs. Reagan’s work as first lady was the “Just Say No” campaign. And on October 12, 1983, Nancy Reagan co-hosted the 8am hour of GMA focusing on drug abuse and prevention among children and teens.

Something tells me we’re going to find out Mamie Eisenhower co-hosted CBS’s The Morning Show with Walter Cronkite discussing interstate driving safety circa 1954.
