“CNN President Jonathan Klein must be as giddy as House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi over his network’s rare triumph over Fox News Channel in the key 25-54 news demo and its finish just a sliver behind in total viewers,” J. Max Robins writes.
He notes that “Fox News tried to spin CNN’s performance as evidence of the rival network’s liberal bias,” but he disagrees: “CNN’s coverage was simply more energetic and comprehensive than its competition, and the Nielsens reflect that.”
CNN took out a full-page ad in today’s New York Times to declare itself “#1 on Election Night.” CNN had “more viewers than any cable network, more key P25-54 viewers than any cable network,” and “the highest share of online news,” the ad says.
Robins counts CNN, ABC News, and right-wing pundits as “winners” of election coverage, and Fox News, MSNBC, and CBS as “losers…”
